There is a huge range of texts related to renewable energies. To translate these correctly, it is essential to have an in-depth knowledge of the topic in question, the specific terminology of the sector and the characteristics of the target audience.

It also important to be familiar with the type of text to be translated, and this is only possible with experience. Below I have listed the texts I have translated the most during my 10+ years as an environmental translator, and the reasons why they need to be translated with meticulous attention to every detail.

•  Websites. If you manage a company, a research group or a public awareness initiative, your website is your shop window. To convey a good image, it should have a professional design, be easy to navigate using a computer or a mobile phone, and the texts should be well written — or translated! Failing to get this right could turn your visitors away, to search for a website that looks more trustworthy.
• Blogs, newsletters and press releases. Do you want to share information with your followers or publish news about your developments? Depending on your target audience, your texts will have either a more informative or more specialised style, which needs to be maintained in the translation so that your communication is consistent across all languages.
• Installation, operations and maintenance manuals. There is no room for error here. You need a meticulous translation that accurately reflects the same content as the original and ensures good comprehension, to avoid errors that could put the system, and those working with it, at risk.
• Product catalogues and data sheets. If you want to sell your products, you need to clearly present all information of interest to your potential customers; from highly technical data to the advantages that set your company apart from your competitors. And, among many other benefits, you’ll gain even more trust if you present the information in the preferred language of your target audience.
• Case studies. You have reasons to be proud of your work and you want your potential clients to know. You can present your case studies in various ways: as though telling a story, in interview format, summarising the main points, etc. The most important thing is that your texts are persuasive and inspire confidence, so they need to be perfectly written (or translated).
• Sustainability reports. This type of document encompasses much more than regulatory compliance. Its aim is to communicate the environmental and social commitment of your company or organisation, to show your contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals, to explain how you manage the risks and opportunities of your activities and, basically, to enhance your reputation and brand image.
  For the report to achieve its communicative aim, it is essential that people read it. It should therefore have an attractive design that invites reading. And, of course, the writing (and translation) must be clear and engaging even when it deals with complex issues. This is why it is so important to entrust these reports to someone who is knowledgeable about the subject and will ensure the right style.
• Research articles. Are you developing solutions that improve the efficiency of renewable energy systems or reduce their environmental impact through the use of new materials? The world should know about your results, so don’t skimp on a good translator who is up to date with developments in the sector and feels confident in the scientific field.
• Awareness campaigns. Do you want to raise awareness among the general public about the importance of renewable energies? Here, the most important factor is the ability to adapt the text to the awareness level of your audience and to make even complex ideas understandable.
  If you have ever written this type of text, you will know that it’s more difficult than it seems! And it’s the same with a translation, which needs to mirror the original text but be adapted to the preferences and expectations of the target culture.
