Translation

Specialisation and commitment to continuous training

For a translation to meet the desired objectives, not only do you have to have an excellent command of the source and the target language, but also an in-depth knowledge of the subject matter in question, the terminology specific to the sector and the characteristics of the target audience.

This is why I specialise in medical, environmental and literary translation and translate only into my native languages: Spanish and Basque. I am also committed to continuous training and only accept projects that perfectly match my skills, knowledge and experience.

Want to ensure that your project is in the hands of a professional who fully understands your vision and objectives?
Keep reading to find out the steps I follow in each translation project to deliver a result that meets your expectations:

You tell me in general terms about the project you need help with: the type of document to translate, subject matter, language combination, volume, etc. It would be very helpful if you could send me the complete document, or at least a representative sample of it, so that I can better evaluate it. Then, if I feel that it fits with my skills, we’ll move on to the next step. If not, I’ll try recommend someone else who might meet the requirements.

We’ll discuss in depth your objectives and expectations:

  • What do you want to achieve with this translation?
  • Who will it be aimed at?
  • Do you need it within a specific time period?
  • Is it a one-off project or do you plan to order other, related translations?
  • Do you have a previously translated document that I should use as a reference?

Tell me everything you think I should know and I’ll ask you a few questions to make sure I fully understand what you expect of my work.

Once I have all the information to hand, I’ll prepare a tailored quote with full details of the project. To do this, I’ll need you to send me a definitive version of the document or documents you need translated. Any content you send me will be kept secret, of course, regardless of whether a confidentiality agreement has been signed.

If you accept the quote and the terms and conditions, it’s now time to confirm the order. To do this, you just need to sign the quote, pay the amount as indicated and send me proof of payment.

It’s time to get down to work! You can get back to focusing on your business while I get started on what I do best – translation. I’ll create a new version of your text, in Spanish or Basque, that will help you achieve your objectives.

Translation is much more than converting one language to another! It involves a lot of behind-the-scenes work: researching subject-matter terminology, creating a dedicated glossary for the project and, of course, meticulously reviewing the translation once completed to ensure it’s as polished as possible.

If it is okay with you, I might get in touch if I have a query or to ask your preference if there are different options for translating something. If you would prefer to leave any queries until later, I’ll translate using my own judgement and when I deliver the text I’ll include a note to explain any important decisions I have made, and why.

Needless to say, I will adhere strictly to the agreed deadline, so you needn’t worry about any delays or a last-minute rush.

All my quotes include two rounds of revision. So, if you wish, you can revise the translation, ask me any questions you might have and propose any changes you’d like to make so that the final translation aligns fully with your preferences. The first revision round is more general and consists of revising the complete translation. The second round is to give the text a final look-over once the required changes have been implemented.

We’re finished! Your text is now ready to achieve your objective. Any final questions? Anything else I can help you with? Send me an email and I’ll happily get back to you! If you have no further questions we’ll say goodbye until the next time you need my services.
